P3: Planning My Media Profile
P3: Planning My Media Profile
In this report, I am going to plan the creation of my media profile. I will document my target audience and show my planning process. I will use knowledge from unit 1 and 2 in my report.
Target Audience
I would like to create a digital personal media profile. I am planning to create my own personal portfolio website to promote myself and my work. The goal of my website is to persuade my audience to contact me and offer me either a job, apprenticeship or freelance work. I will include information about me, work I have produced and contact information to help me sucessfully achieve my goal. If someone shares my website, this is also an accomplishment since I am then producing a brand and gaining reputation in the media industry.
I am going to target the psychometrics Explorers and Succeeders. Psychometrics are ways that industries categorise us based on our values, attitude and lifestyle. Small and large businesses are my target audience along with students who may be interested in my work. Social grades B and C1 will be small and large businesses. They don't have the time or skills to advertise or create media products for themselves. Students are the secondary target audience so they are social grade E. Social grades allow businesses to target certain professions or those who earn a certain amount of money.
I will use several tecnhiques to attract my target audience. To showcase my creativity, I will treat my website like one of my media projects. I will use bright colours and a range of typography to capture the attention of my target audience. I will impliment brilliant UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) design so my audience can easily navigate through my website. From my website, my target audience will want to see my portfolio of media work, who I am, what qualifications I have and they will need a way to contact me. Businesses/potential employers can then look at my website to see if they would like to hire me.
Strengths and Weaknesses of Portfolio Websites
Since I am going to create a digital media profile and not a physical media profile, there are going to be advantages and disadvantages.
Websites can be accessed anytime through a digital blackbox device with internet. A backbox device is where technologies have converged (theory by Henry Jenkins) into one device. Smat phones and laptops are good examples of this since you can call people, search the internet, listen to music etc. The werre origonally old technologies seperately. They are easy enough to navigate and are not too costly to run for a basic website (a custom domain name will cost). There are website builders such as Wix or Wordpress that you can use the create your website easily, you don't have to code it and waste your time. To share your website, you just need to send the URL to someone.
However, websites need a device and internet access which some people, especially in poorer countries, won't have access to. Phyical materials cannot be placed on a website. You will need to be wary of file types etc when creating a website and you will need to scan or take photos of physical work you have created.
A moodboard is a collection of sample materials based around an certain topic or theme (as learnt in unit 2). Above you can see my moodboard, I created this for my website. You can see I intend to use bright colours and what shades I will use. My target audiences are students and (mainly) businesses. I want my website to feel energetic and fun.
Here you can see I have created wireframes for my portfolio website. In unit 2, I learnt that wireframes show the basic structure of a website by using placeholders to assign sections. I am going to create a home page, contacts page, blog page, gallery page and porfolio web page.
To conclude, I am going to create my own portfolio website to showcase my media work and self promote. Businesses will be able to contact me through my website and hire me for either freelance work or a job. Students may want to learn more about media through my blog and they might also be inspired by my website. I could possibly collab with them on future projects. I have produced a range of pre-production documents to help me create my website.
